Reflection

1. What ideas from today's session could you CONNECT with? Perhaps think about what you already knew about proof reading and collaboration to respond to this question.
Today I could connect to some ideas of proof reading because I was practically just getting the same comments in a recorded or face-to-face way. Instead of having comments written down in a paper there were given in real life or in a recording. This way I also got constructive criticism so that I could improve my work to try to achieve a better piece of writing. This way of proof-reading helped me a little more because it gave me a more general idea of what I could improve on so that I could make better my whole work not just a small part. This way of collaboration was very similar to having editing in a paper because there was a way that I could improve.

2. What new learning did you have today about proof reading and collaboration? How did this learning session EXPAND your understanding of communication?

Today I learned that voice recording proof reading could also be very important and beneficial because you get another point of view to your writing. Collaboration helps you find errors in your work that normally one would not see them themselves. That proofreading can be as important as writing the piece because it is were all the imperfections are taken out. This learning helped me expand my understanding of communication because it helped me open my mind to new ideas for proofreading and how communication is important.

3. In what ways did the proof reading feedback CHALLENGE your ideas in your intro + paragraph 1? What suggestions were made that helped you to see your work in a new way?
The proof reading feedback helped me and challenged me to improve my righting because now I knew that I had to try to achieve better. I got higher standards so that I could have the best work possible. The feedback helped make my ideas better and plan out what I could improve for the next paragraphs. The best suggestion that I believe was made was that I should check the grammar and sentence structure of my work to try to make the work as best as possible. I also found out that it is better to plan or write out my work beforehand so there was less probability of making mistakes.

4. From your learning experience today, what does it mean to be collaborative? What are the advantages and disadvantages of face-to-face collaboration? What are the advantages and disadvantages of technological collaboration (not face-to-face)?

I believe that collaborative means helping other improve their piece of writing. Proof reading so that they can achieve the best possible. Editing all the mistakes but also pointing out the positive things so that they can keep doing it that way. The advantages of face-to-face collaboration are that you can make the changes in front of the person so that they will stop doing them and learn from their mistakes. You can also be more detailed while explaining and give visual examples. The disadvantages are that if you are shy maybe you will not give strong enough feedback. The advantages of technological collaboration are that the feedback stays there so that you can read and check it again and again. The disadvantages are that many people if you are camera shy you might not want to talk and if you want to consult or ask something it may be more difficult. 

Glad You Came - The Wanted

THESIS

The Wanted's "Glad You Came" conveys the idea of accompaniment. Through the songs title, connotation and attitude, this idea can clearly seen and described. It describes how it is good to be accompanied when you hand out or go out as it will make you feel cheerful and content. 

PARAGRAPH 1

The title of The Wanted's song gives a first clue of how they are trying to convey the idea of accompaniment. The title is "Glad You Came" meaning that the person talking in the song feels good that they are accompanied. Separately they use repetition to because they repeat this phrase many times.  They try to emphasize this idea is important and they might want you to remember it and make it stick in your head. The title clearly explains how accompaniment can make you happy because The Wanted says that they are "Glad" meaning they are happy that "You Came" meaning some came come and made them happy (predictable a girl).

THESIS
Kansas's "Dust in the Wind" convey's the idea of insignificance. The song richly describes how in a world of millions of people we are only a minuscules part and we might be overwhelmed by it. This idea can be proven through the songs connotation, tone and attitude. 
PARAGRAPH 1
Kansas has a unique and interesting use of connotation in this song through the beginning, middle and end. The band has three main ways of showing connotation being metaphors, imagery and repetition in their lyrics. The lyrics have different metaphors through out the song like "Just a drop of water in an endless sea" (Line 8) meaning that we are insignificant or just a small bit in a world of seven billion people. We quietly fit in a mass of people. They also use the metaphor of "Dust in the Wind" (In many lines) to express the same idea that we are just one more in this whole world with many people. These two metaphors plus other lines also help create imagery. They give the idea of being small and surrounded by similar things. These ideas make you imagine one is just a small insignificant part. They use common and concrete examples to illustrate what they are trying to express. The line (17): "And all your money won't another minute buy another minute" also helps illustrate the idea that you can't buy more time with money so that you can try to become important or a little bit more significant in this mass of people.   Lastly, they use repetition through out this whole song with the phrase "Dust in the Wind" because in the song they repeat it eight times. Meaning that they say this idea is important and they want it to stick in your head.

THESIS
The song "Titanium" by David Guetta ft. Sia, illustrates the idea of being strong. After you are hurt in any way you can and will stay strong. You will not be the one hurt after any incident, it will be the other person. This is evident through the songs lyrics that have the metaphor of how titanium is after a bullet is thrown, shifts and language of the song.

Meaning of Apologize by Timbaland ft. One Republic

This song is about a girl that hurt his boyfriend as is trying to apologize for her mistakes. Her boyfriend, the person how is singing the song, was very caring with her, never let her go and was willing to take another chance and anything just to stay with her. However, she hurt him really badly and this time he was not going to apologize her. His love for her was starting to fade and the flame he had was starting to die down. The damage was already done and even though she tried to apologize, there was no going back for her actions; he had already been through too much. The singers use the metaphor of the ten meter rope to express how what he has been through and how much he has hold on to the girl and the fire to know how his feelings are vanishing. The attitude of this song is nostalgic because he knows it is about time to let go even though he doesn’t want too. The attitudes and feeling of this song shift after the first stanza from how he loved the girl to how he knew it was time to let go. However, there overall tone of the song was sad and the theme was about a young man that knew it was time to let go of a girl that had hurt him even though he did not want to.
